DIY: Mint green heart earrings

I saw these adorable  mint green heart earrings at fredflare.com and instantly wanted them, but decided I could probably make myself a pair! So I did! Mine are a bit larger than the ones I saw also not as perfect, but mine are from clay and paint and I’m proud to say I made them! They were super simple and again like all my DIY projects require only a few things.

For this project you will need:

  1.  Mint green clay
  2. Gold metallic paint, I love the Martha Stewart brand!
  3. Earring post and backs (You can get a pack of 10 for $1.49!)
  4. A tiny paintbrush
  5. Craft Krazy Glue
  6. A tiny heart cutter (optional but made it so much easier to get a uniform heart shape)
First take a small piece of clay and roll it into a ball. Then roll it out using a small rolling pin or like I did I just used the paint bottle. You want the clay pretty thin so continue to roll it with even pressure until it is to your liking. Then cut out your heart shape or use the cutter to make the hearts. Bake the clay hearts for 30 minutes at 230 degrees or as your instructions say on your clay packaging. Once removed from the oven and cooled paint the edges around the heart with the gold paint. Let dry and then glue your earring post to the back using the krazy glue. Let dry overnight just to be sure everything is good to go! And that’s it! It was so much fun making these and  I do hope you try making your own pair!
